Best of Sale

Here are my top 3 picks from the current J. Crew final 30% off sale:

Ripstop cargo pant: $39 down to $27ish. You can dress these up with a heel and dressy top and jewelry, or wear with flip flops and t-shirts. Most sizes still available.

Faded Denim Jacket
: A biggie for Spring/Summer 2010, although those of us in the South know we can't wear it too far into the summer with our temps down here. But it's still great to throw over a little dress in the air conditioning, and perfect for right now when mornings and evenings are still cool. $98 less 30% comes to about $70. Live in it come Fall.

Tissue tuxedo tank: $24.99 less 30% = about $17.50. Pair with the cargoes and the jean jacket and you have a really cute, season-spanning outfit for about $115, plus 3 really versatile pieces!

Order now, like tonight, or you won't get the deals. Enter EXTRA30 at checkout.

Spring skirts

This looks like it will be the week to break out some spring/summer clothes! By Wednesday or Thursday I want to wear the skirt I grabbed at Old Navy recently:

Mine is brown though and I got it for $15 when it was the Item of the Week. Here's another I'd like to pick up:

The foldover waistband is really comfy. I'll wear both of these with white fitted tees and tanks and flip flops or gladiators, and a piece of statement jewelry like my leather cuff bracelet from Perpendicular (see my post from March 8) or my new brass one from Holly Handcrafted Designs (March 25 post).

Holly Handcrafted Designs

This week I had the opportunity to meet another talented (and pretty!) artist and take pics of her beautiful jewelry. Her name is Holly Owens Mills:

Holly handcrafts all of her pieces using silver, copper and brass, along with semi-precious stones and crystals.

I adore pieces with both silver and gold; you can wear them with everything!

I thought these were rings when I saw them online, but they are bracelets and so cool! I got a shiny brass one and I love it!

This necklace above is silver and copper. Holly showed how it develops a great patina over time that looks really pretty, or you can polish it very easily to keep the shiny look.

Copper and silver twisty bracelets. I would wear a few at a time.

This pendant has little hand-made rivets in the corners. Love it!

I think this cross would be so great as a first communion or confirmation gift. Simple and rustic.

You can find Holly on Facebook under Holly Handcrafted Designs, and she will be at the Dogwood Arts Festival in Market Square in Knoxville April 9th through the 11th.

You can also let me know if you'd like more information on any of these pieces and I'll put you in touch.

Anthropologie has wallpaper!

I love some of Anthropologie's new wallpapers! My favorite is the stacked books. It would be so great to do on one wall in a study, living room or even hallway! Another cool idea is to paper your stairway wall, as in this photo I have posted before:

Canvas

See if you can guess what retailer these great items came from:

Are you ready? Land's End! Specifically, their new line, called Canvas. Very J.Crew-inpsired, and the prices are really great! They are available in some Sears stores, but in our area you can only buy online for now.

Norma Kamali at Walmart!

I just saw this dress on The Today Show and jumped online and ordered it. It's by Norma Kamali at Walmart, and it's only $24! We're going to Las Vegas next month and I thought it would come in handy. Look how many ways you can wear it!

It was sold out in my size in wine and black, so I ordered red. Maybe they'll get more in stock, because black would be my first choice. At this price, I figured I can't go wrong!

Time Changes

Thought I'd do something related to this weekend's time change (which has made me very tired and cranky, by the way). These are some fun and stylish ways to keep track of the time. All courtesy of Google Images.

Let There Be Light

I am really happy with my new foyer light fixture from Shades Of Light. You can also sort of get an idea of the paint color in this shot: I painted the ceiling the same color as the walls.

Incidentally, I got an email from a Ralph Lauren paint representative who told me that even though their paint will no longer be available at Home Depot, they will be increasing their relationship with independent dealers. There is not one in our area yet, but Home Depot still has some inventory. My foyer shade is "Walnut." Also, I will be ordering a fan deck from them so if you promise to return it, email me to borrow and you can match your shade until their paint is again available in East Tennessee. Happy Sunday!

Perpendicular

I got to do some shopping this weekend from a great new source called "Perpendicular." Mitzi Mayer (above) is the entrepreneur behind this fun private shopping event. To quote her mission statement: "at perpendicular we showcase combinations of old and new, funky and traditional, bright and faded, vintage and contemporary. we look for pottery and glass, photography, paintings, textiles, jewelry, and a vast array of FRIVOLOUS IRRESISTIBLE OBJECTS."
Here are some pics I took of some of the very cool inventory:

Fun little canvases for a wall grouping or to tuck into bookcases. The one on the left says, "I feel a sin coming on!"

Chunky gold and pearl jewelry

Unique, well-made tees

Plastic-coated tote bags; more affordable than Scout bags and can be monogrammed.

A painting on burlap! by artist Vickye Storey

LOVE these leather wrap bracelets with inspirational sayings. Pile 'em on!

Fun retro collage art by Charla Steele

Gorgeous handmade necklaces

Another style of leather bracelet -- this one has magnetic clasps so it's easy to put on.

You can become of fan of Perpendicular on Facebook. They don't have a shopping website yet, but let Mitzi know via Facebook if you're interested in something, or comment here and I can help you out. She's going to market next week, so be watching for more great stuff!
