Let There Be Light

I am really happy with my new foyer light fixture from Shades Of Light. You can also sort of get an idea of the paint color in this shot: I painted the ceiling the same color as the walls.

Incidentally, I got an email from a Ralph Lauren paint representative who told me that even though their paint will no longer be available at Home Depot, they will be increasing their relationship with independent dealers. There is not one in our area yet, but Home Depot still has some inventory. My foyer shade is "Walnut." Also, I will be ordering a fan deck from them so if you promise to return it, email me to borrow and you can match your shade until their paint is again available in East Tennessee. Happy Sunday!

Foyer Rug

The foyer painting is underway and I'm really happy with the Walnut color. Although, I discovered that Home Depot is discontinuing Ralph Lauren paint so I had to have it color-matched with Behr Ultra Premium. I'm very happy with this new paint. It has primer mixed in and I can probably get away with just one coat on the rolled areas.

Now I'm looking for a new runner. I can do a 5x7 in front of the door, but because I'm going to place an antique chair and ceramic garden stool there, I want to balance with some pattern down the long, narrow part of the hall.

Here are some I'm considering: Above, from West Elm.

Above, from World Market. I like the touches of color - they would help tie it into my surrounding rooms, including the red dining room.
The rest are from Ballard Designs; another plus here is that I get a designer discount and upgraded shipping. Above, crewel work is back in a big way and a nice mix between traditional and modern.
I wouldn't mind adding some blue to the foyer with this one, but it might be too modern.
I love the poetry rug! The neutral colors tone it down a bit, and I like the uniqueness of it.

Two different views of an indoor/outdoor from Ballard. It's made from recycled plastic bottles! Love the pattern but I'm afraid it might not have enough weight to it.

What do you think?

Foyers

I am redoing our foyer: new paint, new light fixture and hopefully a new rug. Unfortunately, ours is a narrow foyer, with no room for one of those cool round tables stacked with books and flowers. On the upside, the stairway wall rises all the way to the second floor, so I plan to take advantage of that somehow.

This is the "before" shot, above. Actually this is a couple of years old; we have a new front door, though still painted charcoal gray, and my stair railing is painted black now. I've already got the new light fixture, which I love and can't wait to get up as soon as the painting is done.

I chose Ralph Lauren "walnut" for the paint color: it's a warm medium brown that I think will contrast nicely with the white trim and act as a good backdrop for artwork.

Below is some inspiration from the web. Most images are from Decorpad.

Bold color and artwork!

A tall wall like I have; love the mirrors!
This is the most inspiring to me - gallery style wall. Lots of work framing though!

Zebra mirrors!
Nice contrast beween white and pale blue plus touch of black on the chair.
Making the most of a very small space!
Love the loaded-down table.
Iconic light fixture makes the room.
More gallery style plus rough-hewn wood floors.

I will post after pics once our own foyer is finished. Happy Monday!
