Go Big Orange!

If you live in this part of the country, you cannot help but get caught up in the annual excitement surrounding SEC football. Specifically, University of Tennessee football. And if you don't know, our team is called The Volunteers, or The Big Orange. Our team colors are orange and white: we are talking bright, practically flourescent, road-crew orange (there are some jokes about that, but I won't get into it here). Another thing about football around here is that women take their game-day outfits pretty seriously. Luckily, orange is a really dominant color in fashion right now, so it's easy to find stuff for us Vol fans to wear to the games and parties this year.

All of these goodies are on sale at J. Crew right now:

I also found some great stuff at Anthropologie's sale:

Personally, I like to wear jeans and a white top and then accessorize with orange. It's a strong color so small doses go a long way!

Last but not least, I love this tee shirt from Perpendicular. Shame on me, I didn't check to see how many she has in stock, but you can go to her Facebook page and ask:

Partial to Perpendicular

My friend Mitzi's fun Perpendicular line is now up and running in the Shops at Southern Market here in Knoxville. Just ask at the front desk and they will point you in the right direction: I always get a little lost in there! She is currently sharing a booth with another retailer, but in August she will be taking over a great corner location all her own! Mitzi also is showing some jewelry in a separate spot right by the front register. She is carrying some of the Holly's Handcrafted Design pieces I have blogged about previously, with lots of other on-trend pieces.

Here are some of the Perpendicular "frivolous" objects:

I have the dark brown cross cuff; love it!
Everything from cute tee shirts to fun jewelry and unique artwork

One of these hands would be great tucked into a bookshelf for a little whimsy.

New handpainted shells by artist Sarah Stewart - so pretty! She will customize, too!

Here's one of her shells in its natural habitat!

I'm pretty sure this is the tee I saw Mitzi in last year that made me wonder where she gets her great clothes! Now she's making them accessible to us, yay! The line is Starr Luna, and they are so soft and luxurious! Underneath the back neckline is this:

Great message to leave in your wake, huh?!

I think this one is so fun!

And, last but not least, this is the one I got. I love how Mitzi styled it with those long pearls, so I got those, too! Can't wait to wear it -- I'll take a pic for you when I do!

The Southern Market shops are located in the Homberg area of West Knoxville. Have fun! Oh, and Perpendicular is on Facebook and also has a website here.

Spring skirts

This looks like it will be the week to break out some spring/summer clothes! By Wednesday or Thursday I want to wear the skirt I grabbed at Old Navy recently:

Mine is brown though and I got it for $15 when it was the Item of the Week. Here's another I'd like to pick up:

The foldover waistband is really comfy. I'll wear both of these with white fitted tees and tanks and flip flops or gladiators, and a piece of statement jewelry like my leather cuff bracelet from Perpendicular (see my post from March 8) or my new brass one from Holly Handcrafted Designs (March 25 post).

Perpendicular

I got to do some shopping this weekend from a great new source called "Perpendicular." Mitzi Mayer (above) is the entrepreneur behind this fun private shopping event. To quote her mission statement: "at perpendicular we showcase combinations of old and new, funky and traditional, bright and faded, vintage and contemporary. we look for pottery and glass, photography, paintings, textiles, jewelry, and a vast array of FRIVOLOUS IRRESISTIBLE OBJECTS."
Here are some pics I took of some of the very cool inventory:

Fun little canvases for a wall grouping or to tuck into bookcases. The one on the left says, "I feel a sin coming on!"

Chunky gold and pearl jewelry

Unique, well-made tees

Plastic-coated tote bags; more affordable than Scout bags and can be monogrammed.

A painting on burlap! by artist Vickye Storey

LOVE these leather wrap bracelets with inspirational sayings. Pile 'em on!

Fun retro collage art by Charla Steele

Gorgeous handmade necklaces

Another style of leather bracelet -- this one has magnetic clasps so it's easy to put on.

You can become of fan of Perpendicular on Facebook. They don't have a shopping website yet, but let Mitzi know via Facebook if you're interested in something, or comment here and I can help you out. She's going to market next week, so be watching for more great stuff!
