Go Big Orange!

If you live in this part of the country, you cannot help but get caught up in the annual excitement surrounding SEC football. Specifically, University of Tennessee football. And if you don't know, our team is called The Volunteers, or The Big Orange. Our team colors are orange and white: we are talking bright, practically flourescent, road-crew orange (there are some jokes about that, but I won't get into it here). Another thing about football around here is that women take their game-day outfits pretty seriously. Luckily, orange is a really dominant color in fashion right now, so it's easy to find stuff for us Vol fans to wear to the games and parties this year.

Personally, I like to wear jeans and a white top and then accessorize with orange. It's a strong color so small doses go a long way!

Fall Wish List

A few things on my need-to-get-list for Fall: A pencil skirt from J. Crew ( to go with the Madewell silk blouse I ordered: see my Facebook page); a pair of French Sole ballet flats in leopard, because they go with both black and brown and I have worn the bejesus out of my Target ones that I've had for three years!; and a military-style jacket - available pretty much everywhere but I like this one from American Eagle.


This list will be growing, for sure. In the South it's difficult to shop for Fall because it stays hot well into October. So we have to hold off those cravings for warm clothes a little longer than most. Which would be another blog post, actually...transitional clothes that don't look too summery but are still light-weight and comfortable for 80 degree September and October days. Stay tuned!

Bathing Suit of the Year

I LOVE the new tulle suits from J.Crew! So elegant! I actually like the buff color the best, but the details of the fabric show best in this blue color:






This nude tank suit is another one that I love. Apparently, so do a lot of other people, because the only size available now is a 12. Hopefully they will get more in stock!

Faded Denim Jacket: A biggie for Spring/Summer 2010, although those of us in the South know we can't wear it too far into the summer with our temps down here. But it's still great to throw over a little dress in the air conditioning, and perfect for right now when mornings and evenings are still cool. $98 less 30% comes to about $70. Live in it come Fall.

Secret J. Crew

I had some Christmas credit to spend at J. Crew (thanks, Greg!) and spent lots of time pouring over the website to find just the right thing. Why is it that you always find tons of things you want when you don't feel like spending money, but can't find anything at all with a couple hundred bucks in your pocket? Maybe it's the pressure, the feeling that you don't want to make the wrong decision and regret your purchase.

Anyway, during my investigating, I discovered two sections of the J. Crew website that I had never looked closely at before. One is J. Crew Collection, their high-end line. There's actually a new Collection boutique in New York. Definitely a destination shop!

The other "mini-shop" on J. Crew's website is the Designer Gallery. I imagine this will change frequently, the way Target features different designers on a regular basis. Here are some goodies I eyeballed:







The Designer Gallery items are by Panama, Superior Labor, Want Organic, Sperry, Ray Ban, Timex and Globe-Trotter, respectively.
